Notophthalmus viridescens......which has been known to generations of woodland wanders as the Eastern Red-spotted Newt - or salamander. This newt was photographed in Harvard Forest, in Petersham, MA, climbing on a moss covered rock. These salamanders are commonly seen in the open on moist woodland floors.
