Supporting HarvardScience

With leadership comes responsibility, and Harvard University believes that one of its major responsibilities is to advance transformational activities in science and engineering that have the potential to improve the world.

This effort is, first of all, defined by the questions we ask; questions about fundamental science, about the application of new knowledge, and about the future of the scientific enterprise itself, and about how we can best educate the next generations of scientific leaders, and a science-literate leaders in all professions.

If we are to succeed in our efforts, we must foster a science culture in which  questions and answers are multifaceted and discovery is based on collaborations. Recognizing that the nature of scientific knowledge and problem solving demands that we leverage all of the University’s uniquely broad capacity, we are creating a scientific enterprise that is interdisciplinary, ambitious, risk-taking, and taking on the most formidable of challenges.

Above all, we are creating an environment in which all our scientific efforts and educational endeavors are dedicated to excellence, uniting the most accomplished faculty, the most promising students, and unrivalled facilities. We seek to define excellence and set the standards by which all other academic science institutions are measured.

By employing a dynamic science culture to address the most important questions before us, Harvard is, in the words of President Drew Faust, "fixing our eyes on the wonders of the world, building on centuries of wonders past, and creating a foundation for wonders to come."
